Mission

The Yasashii Syndicate is an organization dedicated to its execution of The Sekrit Plan. The Sekrit Plan’s goals, to outsiders, seem strange and mysterious. To syndicate members, however, The Sekrit Plan makes perfect fucking sense.

Who Are We?

The syndicate is a group of people who hang out on IRC. Originally, we were all part of #nixsec, a security research group that existed in 2004. After this group was dissolved, the socially-oriented people in the channel moved on to a new room without the focus on h4xx0r1ng.

We are a subgroup from this subgroup. Our chairman, InfinityB, needed a place to test an iteration of his NukuNuku IRC bot without disturbing other channel patrons. Thus, #seele was born. InfinityB, ZippoCat, and OwlManAtt (the core Yasashii Syndicate members) remained in this channel despite the completion (and eventual deprecation) of the bot.

In 2006, the name ’seele’ was decided to be lame. The name ‘yasashii’ was adopted, and our operations moved to #yasashii.

Why ‘Yasashii’?

Yasashii Yoake is the name of .Hack//SIGN’s theme song, a most elegant and soothing piece. When OwlManAtt declared ‘Seele’ unacceptable, this song began playing, so he suggested that. With no objections from ZippoCat or InfinityB, #yasashii became the new channel name. ‘Syndicate’ was later added by InfinityB.

In Jap, the word ‘yasashii’ translates into ‘gentle’ or ‘calm’. So yes, our name is Gentle Syndicate. Fuck you.
